Road Survey
The activitys of the GeosLab for the constitution of the Inventory
of the Roads can synthetically be described by the following
phases:

survey of the characteristic elements of the roads;
-
frontal and side video of the road that contains the road surface;
-
acquisition from database of territorial information.
The Caars (Computer aided automated road survey) is the innovative system of GeosLab to monitor the road net.
The data are acquired using a high-performance vehicle that allows an accurate inspection of the road; the elements of the road are elaborate and positioned on a digital cartography, through a custom software procedure; this elements cab be displayed with the most diffused models GIS (Software for the management of the geographical information).
Some of the fields of application of the procedure are:

Survey of the damages of the floor of the road for the quantification and the planning of the interventions of maintenance

Survey of the road profile and IRI through a Profilometer Laser with 11 sensors

Survey of the position and the type of containers for the urban solid rabbish

The system is constituted from a mobile cartographic laboratory for the survey of the data, Caars, endowed with hardware, GPS, odometer, inertial system, four color high resolution digital cameras for the direct recording in digital format on devoted PC, electronic equipments and a custom software able to record, for every element, the following information:

Position of the object in terms of metric distance from the beginning of the road, or in terms of coordinates X, Y, Z in a system with assigned reference

Digital image of the detected object

Movie of the road, taken by four points of observation
